Quando ho testimoniato davanti al Senato nella calda estate del 1988, ho dato l'allarme sul tipo di futuro che il cambiamento climatico avrebbe portato a noi e al nostro pianeta. Ho illustrato le tristi conseguenze dovute a temperature costantemente in aumento, mosse dall'uso dei combustibili fossili da parte dell'umanità.

Ma vi devo confessare una cosa: sono stato troppo ottimista.

When I testified before the Senate in the hot summer of 1988, I warned of the kind of future that climate change would bring to us and our planet. I painted a grim picture of the consequences of steadily increasing temperatures, driven by mankind’s use of fossil fuels.

But I have a confession to make: I was too optimistic.
